10th Series - Test Dog, LM Zeus

Came to the line at 12:47 pm

RF - Pyrotechnics for this bird. Zeus runs at the guns and hunts behind and down from them. Taking three loops in front of the guns, he went down, then back up to get the bird.

LF - Good angle across the pond, Zeus went up and down in front of the guns three times. He worked to the left and get the bird.

RR - Zeus jumps into the water left of the peninsula. Then he runs uphill and cuts left across the face of the hill. Getting over the hill, Zeus got some help to come back with the bird.

LR - He ran past the fingers of the water and entered the pond halfway mark. His line is slightly behind the gun. Zeus finds the holding blind to come around the brush and get his bird.

Zeus completed this test in 19 minutes.



10th Series - Test Dog LF, Annie

Came to the line at 12:23 pm

RF - Annie took off through the stick pond. She exited, running uphill, across the road to step on her rooster pheasant.

LF - She angled into the water, then crossed the strip of land. She swam past the point, cut the corner of the water and went straight out to the bird. Her hen mallard had a red, white and blue streamer.

RR - Annie went through the water, across the point an dup the hill getting right in front of the holding blind to grab her bird.

LR - Annie's line is watery. She skipped two fingers of land, got up and across the last piece, then made an adjustment. On a great line, she finds the holding blind then her bird. 

This test took Annie 21 minutes to complete.

Came to the line at 6:48 am

RF - Annie went down the hill, with a splash past the tullies, for one loop hunt to her drake mallard.

LF - She ran down on the right side, then going left of the bales and across the road. She hunted down and up in the fall area to get her bird.

RR - Annie was parked right by the bales in the bottom of a dip. She climbs the hill curving to the right. She was handled downhill and left and hunts the bales that are hiding the guns before she moves left to the bird.

LR - Good initial line over the two hills going way right. Annie takes a handle to the bird.

**Trails in the dewy grass shows how critical the right path selection will be for this series.
 

 

9th Series - Test Dog LM, Zeus

Came to the line at 6:36 am

RF - Zeus took several loops to get his bird.

RR - He got passed the hay bales at the base of the hill. Pushes 3/4 up the hill to hunt near the second hay bale. He worked down to another hay bales then back up to the third hay bale where got into the short cover to get his bird.

LF - Zeus ran over the hill past the bales in a line to the guns. He carries this into the dips and came back with his drake mallard.

LR - He took a line left of the bales of hay and over two hills to the area. He hunted at the top and was handled to the bird on the backside of the hill with the holding blind.

**The judges changed the order of the birds after Zeus completed the test.

8th Series - Test Dog - LM, Zeus

Zeus entered the water left of the island needing two whistles to get on the island. He jumped off and need a whistle to adjust his line. Going over the peninsula, Zeus went in the cove. Taking one whistles on land that carried him to the last water with his last whistles coming near the shore and he had his bird.

Three whistles to adjust Annie's line into the water. She crossed the island then swam to the peninsula, then squared out then adjusted back onto the line. Getting into the cove, she had two whistles for line adjustment. Two more on the land and one whistles over into the water. The more blows in the water and one more as she climbs the far bank to the bird.

7th Series - Annie, LF - Test Dog

Came to the line at 6:45 am
 
Flyer - The dog swam through the first finger of  water then into the larger water to the right. Annie's started lining at the guns. Squaring out of the water takes her right the guns. Getting close to the middle retired, Annie swings left to  get the bird.
 
Middle - Good initial line to the holding blind. Annie veered right into the right pond. She was handled left to the bird.
 
Right - Annie got into the water before the point. Good line into the second water. She cut hard right then curved left to get the bird. 
 
Ended at 6:58 am  



7th Series - Zeus, LM Test Dog

Came to the line at 6:23 am
 
Flyer - Zeus went down the grassy hill and swam the five fingers of water. He hunted behind to the right and deep. 
 
Middle - He took a line left of the flyer and went over the island, then popped halfway to the guns. He was handled and got into the crescent of the pond behind the guns. Heading to the shore, he was high on the hill and behind the guns. Zeus was handled and the guns stepped out to get him on the bird.
 
Right - Zeus was attracted to the flyer station. The handler re called the dog and the judges asked the guns to step out. The guns retired and Zeus was sent again. Zeus swam the 1st and 2nd water and got his bird in high cover under the tree.  
 
Left the line at 6:43 am

6th Series - Test Dog #2

7:00 am
 
Flyer - A long flyer into the heavy cover, Zeus went out and started a hunt on the mowed area. He then worked himself up the hill and into the heavy cover. Zeus needed a handle, and was having a hard to time communicating the needed direction, but he did get the bird.
 
Middle - Good initial line going up hill into the cover and came out with his bird.

Left - Good initial line past the hay bales. Then Zeus pushed his line to the right. With a couple of loops at the top of the hill, he moved more into the area of the fall. Making some more and Zeus had his bird. 

Zeus returned with his bird at 7:10 am - 10 minute test

**Judges announced a 45-60 minute delay to change out the flyer bird from a hen pheasant to a drake  mallard.**

 

 

6th Series - Test Dogs #1

Flyer - Annie drove the hill going through half of the cover line then getting behind the guns all the way up the hill. She came back down to only turn and start heading back up again. Mary had to handle her down to the plane of the gunners. Annie went up to the area of the fall, then on to the bird.

Middle - Good initial line toward the holding blind, then Annie went directly over to get her bird.

Left - She angled down hill and navigated the hay bales and the small patch of trees. Annie carried her ling up the back hill and into the heavier cover and with one short loop she got her bird..

Annie returned with her bird at 6:48 am - 9 minute test 

**We had a short break as the judges decided to move the flyer station a bit closer to the line. The flyer station now sits approximately 150 yards and is shot right into the heavy cover.**

Mary rolled out of bed and came straight to the line!!

5th Series - Test Dogs

Zeus took five casts to get to the area of the blind. He got the bird coming in from the right.

Annie took four casts slightly to the left. On the last cast Annie winded the bird from the left side.
 

4th Series - Water Blind - Test Dogs

Annie came to the line at 6:37 am

Annie got her first whistle in the middle going to the channel. The next came at the waters edge. Getting out of sight, when she became visible again, Annie was on the correct line. Taking one blow on the point, she angled right which brought one more to get Annie back on the line. She got out of the water, crossed the road and went up to the mound to get her bird. She completed the test at 6:42 am

Zeus came to the line at 6:46 am
 
Zeus lined to the water and was out of sight for six whistles. He took three blows as he curved behind the right point. One more whistle to bring him left and one to get on and off the point. Two whistles to adjust the line and one on the mound to get the bird. He completed his test at 6:49 am.

3rd Series - Test Dog - Day 3 of Testing

Came to the line at 7:15 am

Flyer - Annie went straight to the flyer.

Short Right - She swam to the right of the point at the willow tree. She then ran up land and hunted the waters edge and around the land into the water. Annie went right on the land and was handled to the area of the fall into to cove and got the bird at 7:22 am.

Long Middle - She swam all three pieces of water. Taking a path uphill Annie was headed right of the mound. Mary then handled her towards the holding blind where she found the guns and got her bird at 7:26 am.

3rd Series - Day 2 - Test Dog

The judges instructed the guns on the Short Right Retired "get it (the bird) into the water in the cover." 

Zeus came to the line at 7:07 am

Flyer - Zeus went directly to the bird.

Short Right - (7:08 am) Zeus went into the water in line with the tip of the right point. He was handled back into the water and swam the channel then hunted the land on the right side. He then hunted around the point and was handled back to get the bird.

Long Middle - (7:15 am) He swam all three pieces of water. His line uphill was angling left. He went around the back of the bush to the treeline and got the bird at 7:17 am. 

The judges called out "Line em UP!" at 7:18 am.

3rd Series - Test Dogs

Came to the line at 1:22 pm
 
Flyer - Zeus went straight to the drake.
 
Short Right - Zeus went into the water and swam the channel along the right. He veered out near the guns and hunted the water. he had the bird and was back in. 

Middle Long - He ran to the point of land into the water. Excellent line uphill. Zeus curved right and found the holding blind. He hunted around the bush three times then went down to the treeline and finished his hunt.
 
It took Zeus 10.47 minutes to complete this series.

Came to the line at 1:35 pm
 
Flyer - Quick recovery for his drake mallard.
 
Short Right - Annie went over the first point and on the next shoreline. She worked her way down to enter the water at the far end of a channel to grab the bird on the opposite shore.
 
Middle Long -  Going down the hillside into the water and over the points, Annie got the far shore line. Climbing up the hillside at an angle she got her bird.

It took Annie 11 minutes to complete this series

 
 
 
 
 
 

Test Dog - 1st & 2nd Series


Mary and "Annie" came to the line at 6:30 am

Flyer - The flyer landed across the road. Annie angled right of the road but took a couple of short loops toward the guns before heading back toward the water. She crossed the road and got her bird.

Blind - One whistle before the road  and another at the road. Annie got two more at the dip and one at the blind to get the bird.

Retired Gun - Good line toward the hidden holding blind then Annie curved directly to the bird.

Day 1, Saturday, June 19 - Test Dogs

Came to the line at 6:20 am
 
Test Dog One - Annie with handler Mary Spangler came to the line at 6:20 am.

Flyer - Annie ran out right of the road then took 3 loops and with a tight hunt she went to the bird. 
 
Blind - Annie ran off to the left and took on cast get her back on track. With three whistles she got into the dip of the field. She then curled behind the trees to the left, then came back around the pines to the left and got her bird.
 
Retried Gun - Annie found the gunners then started to work her way back in forth. She popped, then got back into the treeline. The gunners stepped out to help her.

Came to the line at 6:33 am
 
Test Dog Two - Zeus with handler Bobby Raasch came to the line at 6:31 am. He received a no-bird on the flyer and came back to the line at 6:33 am. 

Flyer - Zeus went to the right of two rocks then angled towards the guns. The flyer was in the mowed grass and with a tight hunt, Zeus got it. 

Blind - One whistle to cross the road to get into the grass. Four whistles to get into the dip. Deep of the blind, several whistles in the area to get the bird.
 
Retired Gun - Zeus had a good initial line but then got deep and up wind of the bird. He worked his way back to the bird.
