Day Five Recap - 4th Series Water Blind & 5th Series Land Blind

Wednesday, June 23 started with the start of our 4th Series Water Blind and 80 dogs. When our first test dog Annie came back the judges moved the line ahead 10 yards. However, when Zeus, our second test dog came in from the test, they decided to put it back in it's original spot. Our first running dog for this series was #153 Keen who came to the line at 6:56 am. We had a few re-birds that took approximately four each. Our last running dog #150 Smokie completed the series at 1:20 pm. We had one dog #12 pick up. This series averaged about 4.75 minutes per dog. Callbacks came back quickly and nine dogs were dropped.

With a quick move of the mat we were at our 5th Series Land Blind. This series brought us 71 dogs to start. Our first running dog #29 Blue start us out at 2:33 pm. We saw some pretty impressive dog work with 7 dog that lined the blind! They were #52 Jenny, #103 Ryder, #104 Jack, #108 Reina, #126 Shooter, #130 Breeze and #150 Smokie. We finished with dog #26 Doc at 5:19 pm. This series flew by averaging ONLY 2.1 minutes per dog!

The callbacks came in with 70 dogs being called back. They will be hanging up at the club house and also at the headquarters.

Tomorrow morning we will start our 6th Series Land Quad at the Spangler's southwest side property with test dogs at 6:15 am and the first running dog #60 Oakley being called to the line at 7:00 am. 

The caravan is leaving from the Holiday Inn at 5:00 am!

Contestant Caravan will be leaving the Holiday Inn at 5:00 am.

Annie took four casts slightly to the left. On the last cast Annie winded the bird from the left side.

 

5th Series - Land Blind

SERIES FIVE – Land Blind

The temperature is 77 degrees with a south wind at 10 mph, which will be a crosswind for the Land Blind.

The mat sits atop a mound facing east. When the dog comes off the mound and they are are basically faced with a flat field. This dead rooster  is planted by a marked bush at the end of the field 256 yards from the line and approximately 60 yards in front of the trees. The field is timber lined on the left sloping slightly down hill to the right. There are two little trees at approximately the halfway point. The vegetation is a sparse grassy hay meadow with a wide keyhole to go through. This is a straight forward land blind – the main factor is the cross wind.

Workers' Party

All the folks involved in the 2021 National Amateur Retriever Championship convened at the Barn Again Lodge for the traditional Workers' Party. It was well attended and the barn venue was spectacular with its beautiful prairie landscaping. The drinks flowed and the food was delish! It was great to take a break in the middle of this largest and possibly longest National (in HISTORY!)

4th Series - That's A Wrap

We started with the first running dog just before 7:00 am and finished with the 80th running dogs just around 1:20 pm. Which averages to be about 4.75 minutes per dog.

 Smokie took a whistle before the water then two more to get on and off the point. His last whistle in the back water to adjust his line which worked because he carried it all the way to get his bird.

Pink had one whistle before the water and three that carried her over the point. She never stopped and reentered the water and continued to carry on up to the mound and on to her bird!!

Reina took a whistle before the water. Lunging into the water along the left shore, she swam to the point where she got a whistle on and off of it. Dave hit the whistle two more time after the point then a final time at the mound and Reina had her bird.

Ray got a whistle before the water, then three to adjust his line in the water. Four more blows from Mark when Ray was on the point. He missed the back side water behind the point getting on the land towards the left. Ray ran up the mound and got his bird.

Three whistles got Cole to the water with three more getting him off the point. David blew the whistle the last three time to get Cole to the bird.

104. FC SEASIDE'S POMPANO JACK, "Jack" BLM, Phil Heye

Jack took two whistles in the water then three more to the point. He got caste off put cut in behind the point. He ended the test with two more whistles at the end and he had his bird.

103. FC-AFC BROOKDALE'S JET BLACK GHOST RYDER, "Ryder" BLM, Jim Powers

11:06 am

Ryder received two whistles on the land before the water then two more in water before the point. Jim then blew a whistle to Ryder on the point then one to him off of it. Receiving two more blows in the far water before getting, Jim hit the whistle one more time at the mound and Ryder got his bird.

102. FC-AFC LOCK FIVE'S GOT HER BLUE GENES ON, "Baby" BLF, Bill Woodson

Baby entered the water and got up on the right shore. She received two whistles from Bill off and one more on the point. She jumped off way wide right of the line. With one more whistle at the end she got her bird.

101. FC-AFC BRISTOL'S NORTH SLOPE PTARMIGAN, "Ptar" BLM, Doreen Comrie-Bristol

Ptar heard the whistle once before the water, then one more time to get on and off the point. Doreen had to only blow the whistle one more time on the mound to have Ptar get his bird.

100. AFC HELLS CANYON GHOST RIVER JEZEBEL, "Lola" BLF, Breck Howard

Lola received a whistle before the water and two to adjust her line in the water. One more to her on and off the point that carried her to the land. With Breck hitting the whistle one more time when Lola was on the mound, she got her bird.
